Murderer T.J. Lane, convicted of slaughtering three students at his Chardon, Ohio high school in 2012, has escaped from prison, CNN reports.
Full details of how the escape occurred have yet to be released by the facility. It is known, however, that Lane escaped with two other men around 7:40 p.m. Thursday. One of the escapees, Clifford E. Opperud has been recaptured since.
Authorities are currently searching areas toward the north of Lima where Lane was last seen. The Chardon Police Department is currently offering protection to the victim’s families if they ask for it while Lane is on the lam.
Lane was incarcerated at the Allen Oakwood Correctional Institution located in Lima, Ohio when he escaped. He was serving three life sentences for his gun rampage that left three dead and three hospitalized.
