U.N. forbids Japan from proceeding with annual whale hunt

This ruling from the U.N. comes despite Japan’s protest that the hunt is for scientific purposes, CNN reports.

“Japan shall revoke any extant authorization, permit or license granted in relation to JARPA II, and refrain from granting any further permits in pursuance of that program,” the court said.

The Australian Government initially filed the complaint to the International Court of Justice, which is the primary judicial body.
