CHICAGO – The mother of an abandoned baby girl turned herself in to Chicago police on Monday, Chicago Tribune reports.
The mother is being held pending charges. The police have been looking for the child’s guardians since late Friday night when the child was found abandoned in a flat on the South Side of Chicago.
The baby girl was discovered by Thomas Freeman and Arleasia Lee at 11:30 p.m. after an unidentified woman on the street alerted them the baby’s presence. The child was then taken by paramedics to a local hospital where her identity was confirmed. One of the rescuers describes the baby as healthy-looking.
“I could look at her and see her little fat face. It looked like she was well-fed. She looked healthy, she looked like she was just asleep,” Lee said. “It just pulls my heart out.”
