Ukrainian officials vowed to “never accept” the Crimea region annexation by Russia, CNN reports.
Interim Ukrainian President Oleksandr Turchynov is still attempting to diplomatically deal with Russia, but Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseny Yastenyuk believes there is a “strong possibility” Russia will invade despite the sanctions being levied against them.
“I still believe that there is only on solution of this crisis, a peaceful one,” Yastenyuk said. “But we offer peace, and Russia offers war.”
The sanctions target Russian lawmakers and officials, not the country as a whole.
The United States announced sanctions on 11 Russians while E.U. sanctions 21.
