Facebook is now attempting to help keep gun safety in check by regulating gun-related posts on Facebook and Instagram, South China Morning Post reports.
Facebook will block minors from viewing pages or posts involving private gun sales and will set up online “checkpoints” warning users that such deals may be illegal. New policies will be put into action on smartphone app Instagram as well, where “#gunsforsale” is used to make deals.
“We will not permit people to post offers to sell regulated items that indicate a willingness to evade or help others evade the law,” Facebook Head of Global Policy Management Monka Bickert said.
Facebook has worked with attorneys and advocacy groups to alter their policies in effort to prevent illegal gun sales. They will work on an ad campaign with gun safety advocacy groups to raise awareness of firearm laws to its users.
