Odor of male goats attracts female goats

“Pheromone,” a chemical in male goat hair that is the source of the goat’s smell, has been determined by researchers from the University of Tokyo to stimulate reproductive hormones in female goats, HNGN reports.

The pheromone mixes with oxygen to create a “related compound called 4-ethyloctanoic” which causes the goat’s smell and “attracts female goats.”

“In 4-ethylonactal, we identified a novel chemical that had never been demonstrated in nature before,” Yukari Takeuchi, the “lead author of the study,” said in a press release.
