Dispute with Verizon slows Netflix movie streaming speed

Dispute between Verizon and Netflix over whether or not Netflix will be charged for their videos to be carried, CNN reports.

The dispute originates from Netflix being a “data hog.” Under the assumption that traffic flow would “even out over time,” broadband companies and bandwidth providers had not previously charged each other. However, as broadband companies have begun to feel “overburdened” they have begun to demand payment.

“[Verizon is] refusing to improve the connection between our network and their network,” said Dave Schaeffer, CEO of third party Cogent Communications.
