A Harvard University professor unveiled an ancient text that appears to be the only existing reference that quotes Jesus referring to having a wife, reports the Associated Press.
An expert in the history of Christianity, Karen King, said the text contains dialogue in which Jesus refers to his wife, whom he identifies as Mary. The fragment of papyrus is a copy of a gospel, probably written in Greek in the second century, according to King.
The text was unveiled as the “Gospel of Jesus’ Wife” today in Rome. It does not prove that Jesus was married, King said, but it speaks to issues of family and marriage that faced Christians during that time period.
