By Chantelle Chamberlain
Artist: Scotty McCreery
Album: Clear as Day
First Impressions: This is a fun album, full of images of summer sunshine and sweet, romantic nights with a special girl. There’s an air of innocence through the entire CD. Although not normally a fan of the country genre, this album has made a country girl out of me.
A Little Deeper: It’s clear why Scotty McCreery won “American Idol.” He has a deep voice that melts your heart. His low notes are rich, and all his songs have an endearing country twang. The songs also feature smooth, simple country guitar picking patterns and interesting chords. The lyrics are descriptive, emotional and innocent. His simple, but interesting melodies make the music easy to sing with, while still maintaining variety. McCreery also has a certain Southern charm in his voice. The overall impression is one of home, love, nostalgia and charm.
Liner Notes: This Granger, N.C., native was the 2011 “American Idol” winner. Just over a year after his first audition in Milwaukee, Scotty turned 18 years old and is currently a senior at his hometown high school. Once he graduates, he wants to attend N.C. State to major in (not music, but) engineering.
Best Described As: If your teddy bear had a voice that could melt butter.
Favorite Song: It’s a tie between “The Trouble with Girls” and “Clear as Day”
Least Favorite: “You Make That Look Good”
